Which heart would not break, if the quick
and gentle jolting of morning
dispels shadows of infinite
doubt, remorse, fear of destiny?
Grace hurts the heart; and it will bleed
before the plains, where water bathes
from folds of the delicate fog
the branches that tremble naked;
the wing that glides there, suspended;
the air flooded by the weak light.

Clymene, with time’s passing I shall see how your charms
fade away day by day, admit the gift of tears.
Your beauty is only the armour of your pride;
the days will follow days and turn it into ash,
and no one will see you, splendid, with lowered mask,
as you go down in pride into the coffin’s dark night.
