Status Updates From Out of the Ashes

It felt right to end the year with a book by one of my favorite authors I discovered this year ❤️

As much as this pains part of me, I’m stopping here. Realizing I’m partly going through the motions while reading it was a good sign. If Thomas continues writing adult mysteries beyond what she’s published, I know she’ll find her groove.

Also, I feel the plot is crasser than it should be? It could be the aro side of me talking, but that sex scene I hinted at last night was not it.

I can tell Thomas is getting a feel for how her adult lit voice with sound. This isn’t her best effort so far, but Sam has great motivation as a character and I’m quasi willing to see here corrupt this case is.

Although what happens next chapter has my inner aro raising an eyebrow.
