Status Updates From The House of Eve

I’m so angry at the old white lady that called Ruby a “nigger”. It enrages me how ignorant people in that time period was, and how they still are today.. I’m also angry at William’s mother behavior towards Eleanor.

The issue with colorism is lighter skin black people would think they are above darker skin. It’s bad enough we are living with racism, but this too.

I like this book so far. I see two different perspectives from Eleanor and Ruby. They are both experiencing life as black women who are caught between competing in a society of segregation and colorism. Eleanor is dating William, who is of lighter skin and his family being extremely well known around Howard University. Ruby is seeing a white boy named Shimmy and is her aunts’ landlord’s son.
