Status Updates From Husbandry: Poems

So raw and vulnerable like reading someone’s diary I almost feel like I’m reading something I shouldn’t be

"Sometimes I walk around all day
and I'm happy."

I wanted to feel the cold heaviness
of a ring on my finger
and have it glow in the dark.

Have that ring cry out
that I was part of something beautiful.

Chores

When their mother
left me I felt

like everyone says
they feel,

like I was going to
die every day

for years. But here
I am, alive

as any field of clover
alive as any

balloon, though
the balloon has

been reshaped
into animal

for a child, for
a child's happiness.

Right now dusk is moving
around the house

Like a bad babysitter
waiting for her boyfriend

I carry my son and I
carry myself

How quietly they work. How
they spin their worlds together.
