Status Updates From Freshman Year

“What does it say about a culture when its language describes people unequally? How is the language informing the culture? How do we expect people to use it?”

“Sorry. Ope, sorry.” “Sorry. sorry! Ope.” And now you know this book takes place in the Midwest haha.

Sarah Mai, the main character explains, "See, that guy doesn't care. He doesn't worry if people think negatively about him" (Mai 105). This quote shows Sarah Mai doesn't care what other people think of her and will continue to be herself. So far I like Sarah as a character, but i find that i am not relating much to her. The next thing I think is going to happen is Sarah and her boyfriend getting back together.

Sarah Mai, the main character, is starting her first year of college. A quote that shows her character is, "I took some A.P.S...but i still have to do my math and science credits, and a language. I did Spanish in high School, just not A.P. I didn't realize that was going to be a problem" (Mai 64). This reveals Sarah is nerdy and an overthinker. I think She is very interesting and will have something big happen soon.
