I'd say the majority of the book is explaining people's esoteric experience.
It be like "Imagine an orb with no surface and of complete light entering a pool, the sizzling pain the waves feel are not dissimilar to what Jon was feeling in these moment as his weft stuff exploded into a million pieces. Felt is not quite the right word as weft stuff cannot feel. In short he was shot but not quite shot"

I think I can say that Soft Magic > Hard Magic for me.
Not to say there aren't rules, but I really don't need to know the exact ways that a characters twitching butthole effected the slight deviations in their spell.
Just call the spell something like "And then I had a pleasant afternoon" and have it turn everyone into jam because you really need the character to turn everyone into Jam right now.

Much more enjoyable. Each perspective has a different tone that keeps things fresh.
One is a biblical, one is apocalyptic, one is introspective, and one is a guy getting drunk and having a midlife crisis.
I'll let you guess which one the villains perspective is.
