Status Updates From NieR Replicant ver.1.224744...

Naturally my mind attempts to compare this to nier automata. Kinda stupid considering the fact that they’re paced very differently. While automata strikes quickly, throwing one into the action of a grand war, replicant takes a much calmer, sophisticated approach, instead choosing to slowly tell the story of nier on his quest to cure the black scrawl, taking careful time.

a decent companion to the nier game for the superfans, but not something anyone is missing out on by skipping. this was a good read for my tired brain (familiar storyline + easy prose), but some of the heart was missing. overall, it was just okay. i enjoyed the insights to nier’s character, but that was the only true highlight. i just love this series sm so it gets points for that alone. and emil. i love emil.

it’s just the game but not as good. i would say that as read as a character study on nier himself, it’s decent.. but even the game’s side quests have a lot of characterization stored in them (not to mention the banter between him and weiss while running around). still, it’s not bad. it does contain info missing in the game—like the horrors of the lengths nier is willing to go for yonah and the consequences.
