Starting section on ancient Egypt and it’s a tad disappointing… once again the author talks at length about linguistics. With rare exceptions, pretty much every claim in this book relies upon extremely in-depth analytics into linguistics.

The chapter about early trade networks was a little challenging to follow, and I ultimately didn’t know what point the author was trying to make. However, the start of “the African ancient Egyptians “ is clear and in looking forward to it

Agricultural chapter- sometimes the narrative gets bogged down in very technical, lexicon looks at language as evidence. Which is may be a little beyond a lead reader. Really great information on domestication in Africa, especially the donkey.

Interesting first chapter. Although the emphasis is mostly on Africa, being a part of this series of independently invented technologies around the world. Ceramics, Africa demonstrates the third and fourth oldest examples, in iron working, some of the earliest, in textiles also among the earliest. Although again, these technologies developed independently, but Africa was not “in need” of technologies taught to it
