I was not surprised when more than 40,000 people showed up to see Tom because he was very courageous. I was happy with the way Tom thanked the soldiers fighting in Korea then and the ones who died there. I was surprised when Kim Jong Un allowed America's army to find the remains of Tom's friend.

On page 389 I was surprised when President Truman decided to fire MacArthur. I enjoyed how Truman acted while being asked to take photos of him because he asked Daisy if she wanted to join him and Tom Hundner. I was shocked when Lieutenant Nelson caught Truman from falling because he must have very good reflexes.

This book's title, "Devotion". And I was curious why it is titled that way. After thinking about it, I realized that this book is asking us, "How far can you go to sacrifice for your friends?" When Jesse Brown was trapped on the plane, Tom risked his life to try to save him. Can we do something like that? I thought that sacrificing one's own life to save a friend is the mark of a true hero in Korean war.

Tom tries to reach Jesse and help him get out, but i don't think i'ts easy because of the damage to the plane. This moment shows how fast a mission can turn into a life or death situation. I haven't finished yet, but this part feels like the most important so far.

The story is make me nervous, and there is more tension in the missions.
The story is getting tighter, and there is more tension in the missions. This part shows how dangerous their job. snowing, cold, and crash make everything worse. After landing, Tom runs to Jesse and tries to help him, but the situation is very difficult.

The title guides readers throughout the whole book. Heroism made Tom and Jesse pilots, friendship brings them closer together, and sacrifice is the result of unmeasurable loyalty. But the author decides to emphasize "devotion" since it showed that their commitment and care for one another outweighed everything else including survival. While war is seen as the setting, the actual plot of this story is the brotherhood.

Tom's loyalty to Jesse is striking. His efforts to recover his remains at the crash site, though unsuccessful, show how deep his devotion is. He works to ensure the world remembers Jesse not only as a fallen pilot but also as a hero, pioneer, and the first Black naval aviator who overcame racism and proved his courage in combat. Through this, Adam Makos highlights what it truly means to never leave someone behind.

Tom showed non-sibi by risking his own life to try and save Jesses. Jesse crashed and couldn't get out of his plane due to his injuries. Tom decided to go help Jesse by trying to get him out of the plane while enemies were coming, and it was also really cold out. This shows how strong a bond these two had, as Tom risked his own life trying to save Jesse. This really shows non-sibi.

Jesse and his stories are still influencing people today, just like me. Also, Tom keeps contacting and supporting Jesse's family as he'd promised, and later on, even went on an impossible mission, which is trying to bring Jesse's and other US military remnant back from North Korea, although he did not have much progress, but I'm still impressed with this type of friendship and feeling of Duty carried by Tom.

I felt a strong sense of an enduring tension while reading Devotion. I feel that this created a stressful emotional experience as a reader. The hesitation faced by the pilots made every moment feel very weak, as if something could go wrong at any second. That consistent tension also created a mix of anxiety and respect from me for their courage in a very tough situation, like Jesse Brown's Corsair getting shot down.

This part is super important because it shows a clear picture of the dangerous situations the pilots faced, like dodging enemy bullets while trying to keep the other people on the ground safe. Their smart thinking and strong dedication really changed the battle, showing how important airplanes were in the war. This part really an example of the pilots courage and bravery to their jobs.

I felt nervous when Jesse and Tom's squad were flying over the rough mountains. After Jesse got hit I felt defeated because they are in rough terrain. When Tom landed and was trying to help jesse out of the freezing conditions I was hopeful that they would both survive.

Finished Devotion, and I’ve been wondering why the book was named Devotion, and now I know it. That moment when Tom refuses to leave Jesse shows what true devotion really is. Loyalty beyond orders, beyond survival. The last section of the book reflects that, and it made the ending hit even harder. I enjoyed how the Makos was able to build tension, and while reading the book, I was fully engaged in the book.

Jesse was shot down at Chosin Reservoir and trapped inside the plane. In Chap. 36, Tom and others tried to rescue him, but the enemy attack intensified, forcing them to withdraw. I was sad when Jesse was left behind. I can't imagine how painful it must have been for Tom to have to leave Jesse when he was still alive. This happen will be big damage to the U.S. military and will be repercussions going forward.

The author captures Jesse's final moments where he is trapped in a frozen cockpit, choosing dignity over hopelessness. His sacrifice was not just a loss for the military, but for the future he tried to build. As Jesse tells Tom to tell Daisy that he loves her, the book transitions from a war story to a human tragedy. Devotion is not only found in a victory but the willingness to take risks for a greater cause.

I found that Tom Hudner, a legend and old man once again putting his life on the line and returning to North Korean soil to fufill a promise to a friend over 60 years ago, represents a major shift in the book from action to a larger grief haunting millions. Seeing Tom go from invincible god in the cockpit to an old man looking for his lost brother proves that war never really ends for soldiers, it just changed forms.

Jesse Brown's plane crashed, and Tom Hudner crash-landed his own plane to go and try to rescue him. This was important because it showed the dedication and devotion, as Tom risked his own life to save his friend, even though it was a bad situation. This part showed the strong bond between them and the selflessness and bravery in adversity.

I found Daisy's emotional turmoil and hesitation about attending the ceremony really touching. Even though Tom is recognized for his bravery, the moment still feels bittersweet knowing Jesse isn’t there to share it. The author uses this contrast between honor and loss to show that recognition cannot fill the space left by someone who is gone and that the weight of sacrifice continues long after the battle has ended.

The moments when Jesse got shot down by enemy emphasizes the peak of their friendship between Jesse and Tom, illustrate Tom's absolute devotion to Jesse in the face of death. Tom prepares to assist his pinned Jesse in the freezing and dangerous Chosin Reservoir mountains, choosing friendship over survival. His brave actions and attitude give great courage to his comrades. That's how important Tom is in this war.

The story of Jesse Brown had come to an end, and I felt regret deeply. The author shares the story of Jesse to show bravery, sacrifice, and friendship during the Korean War with his squadron, which made me feel impressed. Through Tom, I feel loyalty and deep sadness as he tries to save his friend. I also felt inspired by seeing courage, but also the pain of loss, which also made me understand how awful war is.

I was surprised when Jesse and Tom's planes crashed. Tom got out right away and had some injuries, but not terrible ones. While Jesse waved out of this cockpit, it seemed like he was alright, but he wasn't leaving. His plane started smoking too, and everyone was wondering why he wasn't getting out. He must have gotten hurt in the crash, making him unable to leave the plane.

I felt a lot of admiration and respect during these pages as the events of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir became more intense and more intriguing. I feel that Jesse Brown had tons and tons of courage during this battle, even after being shot down, which seemed crazy to me. Another thing that stood out most was Tom Hudner’s decision to crash his own plane just to try to save Jesse Brown, showing true friendship.

Daisy receiving the letter after Jesse’s death really made me emotional. I felt heartbroken, especially since I was so deep into the story at that point. I didn’t expect to get this emotionally invested in a book and I am impressed by how Makos was able to show the lasting impact of sacrifice, not just in war but on the people left behind. How do families even move forward after something like this?
