This is the best book about writing I've ever read--and I've read a lot. It's dense and detailed and overwhelming, like a fantastic (literally) creative writing class is happening in your head.

This is isn't really a book you sit down and read through from beginning to end. You read a chapter, stop and look at what you're writing, skip ahead to a related topic in another chapter (from, for example, syntax in chapter three [see page number above] to "trope and throught" in chapter five), then return to where you left off in chapter three. It's intense.
