I laughed, cried, and cringed with disgust. This was a wonderful novel with well researched content about the Bataan Death March during WWII in the Philippines. While there is a complex love story in the midst, it was complimented by a brotherly love story as well. Loved it!

I am struggling with the stilted, juvenile writing style; it much more tell than show. I don’t love war books to begin with, but slogging through these battle scenes might make me DNF this one. I’m going to give it a bit more to see if I can find a bit of give-a-shit about the characters.
