Didn’t vampires need to be invited inside? Otherwise, they couldn’t cross the threshold. Therefore, as long as no one invited him inside, he couldn’t eat anyone. “It’s messy inside. I’d hate to offend your sensibilities.”
“Miss Hawke, you speak as though you haven’t been to my manor.” He gave her the faintest of smiles.

“I wish someone would ask me to dance.” She sighed, and from her right a meow answered her complaint. She startled. Then looked down, finding a black cat sitting on the chair beside her, tail swishing as it watched her.
