Interesting start so far, but the writing isn't quite working for me. Not sure if its due to the translation or if the orginal was like this. First time I am reading about Kazakh culture so thats nice.

It's not that the critics are wrong, per se. But I think they were being overly harsh. This is a book aimed at pre-teens. So, yes, the writing is simplistic,
but you know what? So far, it's better than the last several YA books I attempted. 😂
