Ch 17: all 3 murders are publicized. P receives copycat ABC letters. Press claims to quote P & H. P & H argue about whether P should be out doing something. P remarks that at least the family members aren’t living under suspicion for the murders (Mike! You might be right!!!!) Mary Drower writes P saying she is in London. Clarke is also in London and will be paying P a visit. Megan of course lives in London.

There is nothing so terrible as to live in an atmosphere of suspicion
-to see eyes watching you and the love in them changing to fear
—nothing so terrible as to suspect those near and dear to you-It is poisonous—a miasma. No, the poisoning of life for the innocent, that, at least, we cannot lay at A B C's door!

Ch 16: Alexander Bonaparte Cust in Torquay. Young man observes a newspaper on Clarke murder shakes in his hands. Cust’s laugh unsettles him. Cust says his head has never been right after the war. “Sometimes I hardly know what I’m doing...” I feel like they’re hinting big time he’s the murderer. Must be a red herring.
