Never hated a character but rooted for them so much in my life

This book is….fantastic. Main character is Malaya, a young black girl growing up in Harlem. This is a story about how women’s weight is an everyday concern, how absolutely consuming it really is on families. How they all use food as a way to communicate difficult things, how Nyela and Ma’Mere both are utterly consumed by how “big” they are perceived and how that has directly affected Malaya her entire life
