Despite all the pain she has endured, and the ultimate power that was exerted against her, illustrated by the evil pirate ship of the brigands, it cannot fight against her forever.
It had “taken it’s shot and now had to reload, and it’s stock or balls powerful enough to down supergirl were quickly dwindling”.
Supergirl is an ultimate example of “weathering the storm”, a cosmic Rocky Balboa.

Despite the “haunting” nature of these Kryptonian memories, remnants of a life left behind, this is what keeps Kara going. She is the sole carrier of these memories. And “that memory was unique and needing preserving”.

“She wasn’t the baby who went off in the rocket. She was the schoolgirl who knew Krypton as home, family, and refuge.
She lived in her world. And she saw it die.
She had visited many planets, but she never saw anything quite like that view again.
Krypton did not die in a day. The gods are not that kind.”

For Supergirl, “Krypton did not die in a day.” The memories of her beloved planet living on inside her, haunting her with its beauty and horror. The beautiful view of a Kryptonian tree and the gore of its destruction is inescapable.
She can’t outrun her memories of Krypton. Illustrated by her attempting to escape a Mordru Globe, that which “No man or woman can outrun… no matter how super you are”.

Supergirl experienced the death of Krypton as an adult. She saw it die, along with everyone she cared about. Krypton’s death was not just an idea, it was her everything.
Superman’s infancy shielded him from the emotional devastation of such an event. Supergirl got the brunt of it. While Superman’s origin is public knowledge, for Supergirl it is extremely personal, that she rarely shares due to the pain.

In contrast to Superman, her origin is similar in event, but widely different in experience.
Superman was sent from Krypton after its destruction as an infant, hardly able to remember Krypton, mourning that which he never got to know. Superman mourns and honors the idea of Krypton, as a heritage that he is forever grateful to.

The 3rd-person perspective creates a legendary feel around everything we know about Supergirl’s past.
Although we aren’t intended to doubt what we are told, her story is told somewhat like Keyser Soze’s, where we can’t independently verify what we are being told, and it is filtered through Supergirl and Ruthyes perspective.
though we are to believe what we are told, it feels more like story than history.

The whole series is narrated by Ruthye, not Supergirl. Despite Kara being the protagonist, we only get an outside view of her. Even her origin story is given second-hand by Ruthye, reporting what she was told by Kara.
This choice really highlights the mythical nature of Supergirl. It always keeps Supergirl’s psyche at arms length, where we can stand in awe, without fully understanding what she is thinking.

At this point in the story, we’ve seen Kara and Ruthye go on various adventures on different planets, and we learn much about them through these adventures. However, this series has still not shown anything of Supergirl’s origin story.
Based on the cover of this issue, showing her Kryptonian parents atop an exploding Krypton, this is where we will finally get that origin, showing why Kara is how she is.

I’m constantly amazed by the colors in this series, which is an element of comics that I rarely notice in such a large way. It has a psychedelic feel but is totally grounded.
