One of the stronger chapters. Although it does dig into the uncomfortable dynamics of gendered racism in mixed race couples and especially wasian couples, it still feels a bit odd to center wasians in a chapter about mixed race so much. They talk about lack of representation and seeing what growing up could look like despite wasian rep being common in Hollywood. How they're transgressive only through their whiteness.

Very strange to have the theme of this chapter be about loss/endangerment of an ancient animal but then have said animal contrasted against one of the oldest animals to have inhabited the Earth based on the aesthetics of the animal alone. A shark makes for such a bad "younger animal" when they're older than dinosaurs. Older than sturgeons.
