History is in many cases misconstrued and falsified in order to serve the beliefs of the one studying it. In the cases of the royal kings from Normandy who can be believed by the English to be a righteous king delivering the Anglo-Saxons and Celts from their tribal ways into European civilization, while seen by the Welsh as the final nail in the coffin of the lands independence from the English.
