At 25% into The Shards of Ophelia, one thing that’s really bothering me is how little empathy Malakai is getting. This man was betrayed and tortured by his own father. His entire life has been shattered, and yet no one around him is truly supporting him. The most he gets are occasional “are you okay?” moments, which feel shallow considering everything he’s been through.
