Status Updates From This Day Is Dark

Have to take a break again, because it’s sending me spiraling. This book speaks directly to the DV survivor in me in the most raw ways.

Definitely going to have to take this one in small quantities at a time. Already been in a state of rumination after a few poems.

Sometimes you envy the people who are good at smiling during moments of hell, but I don’t think you understand how beautiful it is that you are willing to cry and visibly break when your world has been flipped inside out. Your honesty is inspiring.

The frustration is a sign. The way you force yourself into silence whenever they upset you is a sign. Listen.

I saw people running but I just stood there frozen in time, afraid but stuck. A fire began, the smoke detector screamed, the dirty air filled my lungs. But I wouldn’t leave that burning house.

I hope you learn to use your fire to set yourself free. …. I myself have enjoyed the beautiful embers that dance away from the flames of the bridges I’ve burned, and I hope she finds this, she being you. I hope you learn to enjoy the fire and the fact that you are capable of creating your own flames.

The introduction was written so beautifully ❤️ I really felt all of his words. The beginning is a little dark, but I’m already relating to the poetry 😊

I hate to see you break down, but I do want to see your breakthrough, and sometimes it takes falling apart to discover that part of you that is strong enough to walk away.
