Status Updates From Heartbreaker

Falling off cliffs and getting stuck in tunnels. I cannot. This is SUCH an uncomfortable read for me.

This has got a lot better, now that Lynn’s too scared to be a bitch.

I don’t get it - how do so many mothers not understand that it’s perfectly normal for teenage girls to have crushes on older men? (Boys on older women, too, for that matter.) Of course, if the older person does something to encourage it, THAT’S a problem, and sometimes the kid’s behaviour can be too, but the crush itself is a totally normal developmental stage, and kids should never be shamed for that.

Shames her kid for not wearing a bra after a long day of exercise but is going to hook up with the hot cowboy, probably fairly soon. Right. One of those, then.

I seem to remember the plot of this is actually decent, but Lynn really is insufferable so far.

I think it’s natural to think your kid is the cutest, but the nastiness about Melody is really off-putting to me. And coming on the heels of Owen saying that Rory looked just like her (Lynn), it sounds even worse. If this were the first Robards book I’d ever picked up, I’d probably have DNF’d it here and never read another, but most of her heroines aren’t this bitchy.

“Jenny was taller than Rory, with curly black shoulder-length hair, big chocolate eyes, and fine features. She was a pretty girl, prettier than Melody, whose light-brown hair was as long and straight as Rory’s but who was unfortunately afflicted with a largish nose and smallish eyes. But even Jenny was not, Lynn thought loyally, as pretty as Rory…” Yuck. This is a grown woman thinking this about teenagers.
