The book is reatively short and I begin to understabd why. This scene right here could have been two or three chapters at least without being boring, but it us condensed, very centered on Dex' thoughts and mindspace alone, less on interaction. A deliberate choice for sure and at the same time chosing specific details. It doesn't grab me immideately as Wayfarer did but I'll wait and see.

By the end of the book, Dex has clearly changed. At first, they feel guilty about how humans treated the robots, so they avoid asking Mosscap for help. As the story continues, Dex begins to trust Mosscap and work alongside it. Becky Chambers does this to show that growth comes from understanding and connection. She suggests to us readers that healing the past starts with building honest relationships.

In chapter 8 of A Psalm for the Wild Built felt like a perfect finish. It seemed like Becky Chambers was suggesting that something can matter even if it isn't something that will stick around forever. Mosscap saying its okay to be meaningless genuinely stuck with me. The closing moments with tea and crickets felt calm and relaxing. Dex could feel free.

I thought it was interesting how, Dex begins to open up more honestly about their uncertainty and dissatisfaction. Talking with Mosscap makes them realize that their feelings aren’t a failure, but a natural part of being human. Chambers shows that it’s okay not to have everything figured out, and that questioning your purpose can actually lead to deeper understanding.
