This is my first book by this author and I’m convinced she’s been writing small town cop mysteries under a different name. Never in my life have I thought of high fantasy and been like “yeah, main character should have a southern accent, and call people rookie”

the religious undertones have my red flags flying. Saying things like “Christ came to save mankind” and then having things like heart attacks and strokes actually be an internal struggle with demons… It’s just made me cringe too many times
