was so devastating but relevant to the plot of the novel. i overall think it was a unique read and angsty in the BNW mindset. i may need to re-read since it wasn’t my fav but im open to giving a second chance. i liked the messaging of storytelling being a human condition, which invokes me to recommend it to others. fun (maybe a little boring) i give it a 2.8 but i will give it a 3 on here.

i really did appreciate petra as a strong willed character in how she fought for her achievement to leave and take those she believed in. i also thought the story of her losing her family was so heartbreaking and while i kept waiting for a happy ending of her finding them i kind of liked how that wasn’t the resolution. but i think even when she found javier finally that was so bittersweet and his ending fate

the world as much as i wanted to be. while i understand that it’s a cold and dark environment, i just could not find myself enthralled into it, i think that was one of the setbacks for me. however i think the collective and society in general was really interesting and reminded me of huxleys BNW but for teens. i kept making those comparisons as as i read and thought that was wild.

i read it in maybe a week and a few days. i liked it but i didn’t love it. i think the concept was really interesting and i loved that the protagonist was latina. stories and folk culture are big in latino culture and the protagonist using that as her superpower was really great. however i feel like my rushed limit to read it disallowed me to enjoy it so that might be my fault. i didn’t really feel immersed in
