According to her husbands book about their time in Egypt, they selected Egypt for reason other than curiosity. They knew nothing about Islam or Egypt. In sections, she analyzes the Qu’ran and that feels presumptuous. She does draw on scholars, but many are over 30 years old. She seems bent on showing how much better women would be if Egypt believed in the individual as we do in the US. I’d like more curiosity.

I’m going to give this book a chance, but so far it reads as very much a Westerner’s biased and negative judgment of Egypt. There may be little to praise—I don’t know, but her tone is different than it was in Factory Girls.
