Thoughts:
- So that's how Methodism began!
- LOTS of hymns were written in this time period including many that are still sung today
- Lots of infighting among the 1st Great Awakening between Calvinists (Whitefield wing) and Arminian (Wesleyan wing) Evangelicals.
- Some noted ecumenism for the sake of the Gospel however. Much of it occurred under the encouragement of Selina, Countess of Huntingdon. Very godly woman!

Charles Wesley wrote polemical hymns against Calvinism... Wow. Crazy!
Here's an excerpt one such hymn:
"Still shall the HELLISH DOCTRINE [Calvinism] stand?
And thee for its dire author claim?
No—let it sink at thy command
Down to the pit from whence it came.
Arise, O God, maintain thy cause!
The fulness of the Gentiles call:
Lift up the standard of thy cross,
And all shall own thou died’st for all."
