This book is torture. This author is pretentious as hell. And the whole thing is just so dated. Forcing myself to finish it though because I dunno I guess I’m some kind of literary masochist.

This book is upsetting, but made even more upsetting that over 25 years later, the situation is even more fucked somehow. The bits about Export Production Zones is just pissing me off, especially after reading about maquilladoras in 2666.

The critique of identity politics of the 90s and girlpower feminism is really good. Won't say ahead of its time, cause I'm sure there were non-mainstream voices commenting on it, but it's definitely refreshing to hear it from 2000, as we're still struggling with this right now.
