I enjoy the way Zane writes about the West...
However: the last few chapters have been HEAVY with conservative patriotic speeches and moralising. As the story goes on, I find it really hard to sympathise with the protagonists, as they are a pair of seeds that will grow White Christian Nationalism in Arizona. They are the progenitors of what will become MAGA.
It's literally making me nauseous.
