Back when Grandma was Bellflower's age, books had been made from trees. Their pages were paper, which came from forests like those she'd seen on the internet. You can see in the character for book (本) that books were the children of trees (木), that they shared the same roots. The character for book was also the character for origin, after all--books lay at the root of all things.

This is so good so far. I had just started one of the longest stories before I went to 90's night at the brewery with family but it already had me by the lapels.
