I appreciate how careful Bertie (and everyone) is with Pip. No moving on him physically and acknowledging his sexual assault and trauma.

I do love how Gavin can be a quiet place and a listening ear for Pip. So maybe there's some meaning to the madness of having both male protagonist be a bit self hating. Gavin can understand where he's coming from

I don't like the author creates sad sack protagonists. At least this theme is repeated for the men.

He blames himself like Gavin did.
