omgh this book is thereal project hail mary written like 30 years before andy weir's book! an end times rapture death cult works to facilitate universal destruction while a scrappy group works to "evolve" humanity by bootstrap magnificent!

yikes! holy content warning for suicidce attempt at 40 percent! then the plot starts really really popping off! theres an omnicidal threat to the entire universe, plus some high tech shenanigans some weird non triggery sex stuff too! how is this book not more famous??!! i am shocked i forgot this from high school!!!!! wowwwww! i will finish kit tomorrow evening, for sure!

wowwww apparently this is a sidequel that takes place in an alternate universe in 2043 about 50 years into the war with the tauran war from the first book. the worldbuilding is amazing! the plot is enthralling with very little war, lots of tech talk and stuff! cannot wait to finish

i havent read this book in 29 years and i recall it being set on the planet "middle finger" but come to find out it appears to be a lengthy flashback to a war in this alternate 1990s world. i'm sure this fleshes out more as the book goes on but i'm excited to see what the author has whipped up!
