I read this when I was in year 12 as part of a unit called: Utopias and Anti-Utopias (dystopia was not a commonly used term in 1999). I wasn't expecting to enjoy it (but I have to read it, because I'm teaching it, but I have to say, it is kinda hilarious!

I’ll read this version. Then the intros to the other two versions. Then I’ll go forward with a re-read of We, Brave New World, and chronologically advance with dystopian literature from Fahrenheit 451 through to The Hinger games (there are about 10 books there). I’ll also go backwards and read Plato’s Republic and other classics mentioned by Moore.

for if you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners to be corrupted from their infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded from this but that you first make thieves and then punish them?'
