A few chapters in and this book has charmed me via an old man being placated by salad and a plan involving monkeys.

Strongly considering abandoning this because the writing is so off-putting (info dumps to infinity, oh the female main character is an interplanetary hottie ok), but people whose taste I usually jibe with like this so maybe I'll go a little longer...
