Did Hesiod just say Heros preceded all of the gods? I had heard something similar before but that's kind of crazy...

As I don't know about the other editions here in Goodreads, I will play the Torment game and read or even skim this guide and base my potential future review of both of them on both "readings". Literally just started Torment btw, it's pretty decent so far (still in the Morgue/Mortuary).

The book of ideas is getting filled faster than I thought possible. I had some familiarity with the setting from playing Planescape Torment, but the books have done an excellent job in conveying the dream like tone and political intrigue that makes Sigil and the Planes so fascinating. A lot of Gaimanesque influence here, along with what seems to be not so kind commentary on society, particularly regarding law.

Reading the setting material is both fascinating experience in and of itself and occasionally makes me giddy as it gives me another idea for my book of plot hook ideas. Some inconsistency seems present by having portals that are purely intraplanar, despite the fact that the book states that portals always have one end anchored in Sigil. Such impossibilities are the way of the Planes, I suppose.
