Ok, I've had more time to consider...not as good as D. E. Stevenson's, Mrs. Tim, but still very enjoyable.

Hilarious! They have an anachronism party. One person brings a cookbook with the line: “Take the yolks of eight eggs and a point of cream”. The winner gets 3 onions. Lady B wins with the line of poetry: “The Carpenter said nothing but ‘The butter’s spread too thick.’”
Sad but very amusing.

“Charles and I wandered off to the vegetable garden. There is nothing in the world as soothing as a well-cared for vegetable garden. Charles says that people with nervous breakdowns ought to take camp-stools and sit in them all day “ (64).
