This book has helped me realize that I need a better support system, actually that I need one. Not having anyone to talk to, be there for me or us or even help out is disappointing. I feel like everyone has failed us and abandoned us since diagnosis.

The hardest thing is releasing my unrealistic expectations. I can see how some relationships end up resentful and bitter and unloving.

The chapters on communication are really helpful. Self care is also just as important when you have a caretaker role. I notice when my anxiety and depression makes me misinterpret my bipolar partner and I lose perspective. Maintaining a healthy relationship isn't tons of hard work or a hardship but rather takes a more open mind and understanding than other couples face.
