Status Updates From Sprinkle with Murder (Cupca...

The momma and the brothers getting on my nerves. <spoiler> I kinda figured Tate was in love with Mel, but I didn't see the Angie being in love with Tate plot twist. Solution? They should all get together! But I do like Joe! Maybe Angie and Tate can be together and Joe and Mel can get together </spoiler>

This is a really silly and cozy book. The kind of book you read while cozy up underneath a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate in hand. I'm enjoying in it so far.

Reading for a book challenge!

The mom is not enjoyable. Examples:

“Tate is the love of your life,” she said. “It’s understandable that the thought of him marrying another might provoke . . .”

“Mom, I am not now, nor have I ever been, in love with Tate. He’s my friend and that’s it.” Joyce stepped close to her daughter and patted her hand. “That was excellent, I almost believed it. Don’t you worry. We’ll hire the best attorneys money can buy.”

The plot and characters are engaging, even if the story leans on the simpler side. The biggest distraction has been the occasional grammatical error or bit of poor prose sprinkled (see what I did there?) throughout. But considering this was published in 2010 and seems to be McKinlay’s debut novel, I’m withholding judgement. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I'm curious to see how her writing evolves.
