Status Updates From Collage Lab: Experiments, I...

I'm on textured substrates now. Though I didn't think I'd care for the first lab in this section, most of the samples turned out well. I'm not sticking exactly to the experiments as listed. Sometimes I don't have a supply on hand, and sometimes I'm curious about something she doesn't suggest. I don't think it matters. The point is to experiment and learn, and I'm definitely doing both.

Lab 1 (gesso experiments) was terrific, and although I haven't enjoyed working with background papers (Lab 2) and diffused imagery (Lab 3) as much, I'm learning a great deal about how the materials react, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

After reading only the introduction and overview and perusing the table of contents and materials list for the first lesson in chapter 1, I'm hopeful. The book seems logically organized and (delightful surprise) the first lesson requires no supplies that I don't already have. Amazing.
