Status Updates From Words of Life: Scripture as...

“ Behind many objections to the evangelical understanding of the action of the Holy Spirit in the authoring of scripture light objections to divine providence that lean more towards deism than they do towards a biblical doctrine of God…”
GET EM WARD, GET EM 🫡😆

“To call something a text' can perhaps make it easy to think of it as an object laid in front of our critical gaze… consequently we end up regarding scripture more as an object than as an instance of language and use…”

“In other words the widespread contemporary notion that Scripture is not itself revelation, but ought instead to be thought of as no more than a witness to revelation, is found to be an inadequate reflection of Scripture's description of its relation to God, to his acts in history and to his people”

“the evangelical doctrine of Scripture seemed to many to have become lifeless, devoid of the explicit deep biblical and theological roots that need to remain in place in order to give it spiritual vitality… many who have come to reject the evangelical doctrine of Scripture… found it to be lacking in what we might call dynamic spirituality.”

“sin… does not destroy the capacity of human language to speak truly of God.”

“… when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s spoken command, they fracture their relationship with God himself.”

This is, imo, the best single volume on the doctrine of Scripture available. Good to go through it again and be reminded of all the truth therein.

My only regret: not reading this sooner!
