Pale Horse, Pale Rider: The best of the 3. MC is a character from the first novel, Miranda, as an adult working for a newspaper. She meets Adam. The time period is near the end of WWI and the beginning of the Spanish Flu epidemic.

Noon Wine 3.5

The Thompsons run a very run down dairy farm. One day an immigrant comes along looking for work. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Helton agree on a wage and Mr. Helton gets the farm running and turns out into a profitable business. Then a tragic event happens that changes all of their lives.

A bit of a rough around the edges story that reminded me of a cross between Cather and F. O'Connor.
