The book is set on a plantation in the early 1800s which i did not know going in. I am a third of the way through and so far there's been several chapters depicting and commenting on the violence of hunting but no mentions of slavery. Sus. John Audubon is an important character in the book. Although he is accurately depicted in an unflattering light.
