Nothing in Van Gogh’s version of Moulin de la Galette recalls Renoir’s cheerful view of dancing couples at the Moulin de la Galette. The Windmill may have reminded Van Gogh of Holland and also this painting is associated with the melancholy descriptions by Emile Zola who had a great influence on Van Gogh.
