I picked this up just as I was leaving the library having decided I did not find anything I really wanted to read. One page into the cover and I was hooked. It’s an aspects of Indian history that no one focuses on - the WW2 years are either about the traditional actors, or in India about the freedom movement. Yet Indian participation in the war had profound effects on both - something I hope to better understand.
