It has taken almost a year for me to revisit this collection of stories; more so, The Kreutzer Sonata and Family Happiness wounded me beyond repair. I am ready for the salt again. The wounds always seem to reopen as winter approaches.
Also, a month after reading the Kreutzer Sonata, I had the privilege of experiencing the piece live, accompanied by Rita Dove reading her Sonata Mulattica. :,)

The Kreutzer Sonata feels like incel propaganda: the protagonist blames women for men’s lust, compares them to animals, and buries any moral point Tolstoy might have been trying to make.
