Switching to the Mandelbaum translation halfway through because it is leagues above Esolen's but still reading Esolen's notes because this is a Theology and Poetry class after all... divinity school takes you to interesting places!

I fear the poetry of this book is lost on me. Maybe I’ve lost interest, but it’s incredibly dry and boring. I’m at the point now where I’m just reading the chapter preview and skimming the notes for anything interesting.

Maybe I’ll seriously pick this series up later when I’ve become a little more well read and patient with this type of prose.

im lowkey skipping over every other canto because i always arrive late to my reading group lol
