That's it? Like, the motive is good, but they had zero evidence, so he just grabbed the gun and outed himself? Why? Maybe if we knew more about him as a character. Ugh.

From the first story, a blatant (read: delightful) WWII propaganda story: "A home, like a homeland, must give freedom, or those who dwell in it are no more than prisoners." I wonder if Caspary was also directing this comment towards Japanese American internment?

After initial editing goofs, I did not even want to pick it up again, but it was a gift from my daughter, so let's be polite. Glad I cont. because it does get much more interesting. Funny to hear all of my late parents' slang terms come out of these pages!

There are 3 short stories and a novella here, the titled story, to which I skipped. The Stork Club was owned by a long-dead great-uncle of mine. I never met him, and my parents preferred it that way, but it is still interesting to see the club featured in a story. "Billingsley" is spelled correctly in intro, then spelled w/o the "e", incorrectly, a bunch of times afterward. Grating!
