Frankfort chapter done. Just skimmed. Now Chapter 13 by C J Gadd. These were readers of the languages. Sumerian is understood better now but this should give me the baseline. The Early Dynastic periods are covered here beginning with the Second ED. We will soon meet actual kings here I expect.

History begins early in the Middle East. Around 3500 BCE. This book is very old but there is no newer edition. 1971 is still not terribly old. Tablets are readable from 3000 BCE. Uruk is earlier but for that much more recent books are available. I am skipping part one of this volume even though I bought it and it has extensive archaeological reports. Summaries.

Mesopotamia was discovered in mid 1850.
