Page 375: didn't expect such a lame story from Ed Gorman. Hope this last story redeems the close of this anthology.

Another book the Goodreads' and actual thing in my hands' page numbers don't match up: I'm currently on page 354 and not done yet.

"The Blue Burro" was a Jack Reacheresque modern quasi-Ranger story. Ok as such goes.

"A Border Dispute" is the first dud of this anthology.

"In the Line of Duty" by Elmer Kelton is a good story strongly written. A good, solemn Western.

Brandvold's "Ghost Colts" is a fascinatingly told tale that (a) had its secret revealed by its introduction, (b) made a rather seemingly major faux pas for a Western story that irritated me until I understood why, and (c) surprises me that it's included in this thus-far non-speculative anthology. But I really like it and thought it well-done all 'round.

I love tales of John Wesley Hardin. Why, I don't reckon quite the why, outside he and his legend have fascinated me. Some folks loved Billy, some Jesse; it's John for me.

Anyway, Randisi writes a pretty decent and enjoyable fictionalized historical story of JWH's capture.

James Reasoner writes an adrenaline-pumping and solid Western with some great action, authentic dialogue, and winnable characters.

The Dusty Richards' (Great Western author name!) "The Plum Creek Fight" is exciting, vivid Western action! Great historical re-creation with good ol' gun-boys...'n gals.

Troy D. Smith's "Sundown" is unusual in that the Rangers don't win a full victory at story's end. Entertaining but not fulfilling.

Went to the library for a particular title, didn't have it, found something completely different. Good to read some Westerns again, L'Amour to boot. A slip of a Bowdrie tale opens the contents right nicely.
