Fuck this book, ugh, I need to read more about the different pieces of the civil war bc she talks about so many different waves it went through

This is awful my god, I mean, how do you watch ur husband go to his freedom and know he isn’t going to do anything to come and get you bc he can’t…

This chapter reminds me of why Huckleberry Finn is an adventure and how this story is not in many ways. Women do not get adventures in stories like these and yet they’re always worried about their male counterparts… and their children of course, but men have the notion to save them outside and women always have to stick around to deal w consequences

I like the way this story is chaptered, each is an object and a story and I’m not sure if I’ve read something like this before

Way too ambitious thinking I’d finish this in one night… I could but I am tired. Lemon came to snuggle and then I knew I must sleep. I love this story and some of it you can tell Percival Everett used for James… which is why I wanted to read this book, trying to make as many connections as possible

Narration was amazing.

Tough listen. The cruelty faced, what one human being will do to another.
