I just learned about the concept of bright lines. It relates to making goals. A bright line is a clear division. For example, if you want to quit smoking you should probably outlaw smoking in your life, instead of saying, I’ll smoke one cigarette once a month. A once a month cigarette probably will not hurt you, but allowing yourself one every month is not a “bright line.”
